Nellie’s operates a 36 bed emergency shelter for women and children who are seeking shelter and /or leaving violence. Nellie’s also operates a community support and outreach program for low income and socially isolated women and children in the community.
Nellie’s is seeking members to join our Fund Development Committee whose experiences align with Nellie’s Mission:
Our Mission is to operate programs and services for women and children who have and are experiencing oppressions such as violence, poverty and homelessness. Nellie’s is a community based feminist organization which operates within an anti-racist, anti-oppression framework. We are committed to social change through education and advocacy, to achieve social justice for all women and children.
About the Fund Development Committee
Nellie’s Fund Development Committee is a Board Committee, whose purpose is to provide support to the agency’s fund Development Program.
We are currently seeking three (3) self-identified women to fill vacancies on the Fund Development Committee.
Currently Nellie’s is looking for women with experience in the following areas:
– Finance
– Marketing and Communications
– Social Media
– Fundraising
Responsibilities:
- Raise awareness of the Fund Development Program through development and training of the Board in the areas of fundraising, stewardship and communications
- Make recommendations to the Board on policies and budgets relating to the Fund Development Program
- Review the organization’s marketing and communications materials to ensure the organization’s mission, vision and values are reflected without compromise
- Participate in the Annual United Way Campaign to ensure that the Board canvas is completed
- Participate in the agency’s Every Member Campaign to ensure the Board canvas is completed
- Represent the agency at Fund Development events and supporting activities that involve the cultivation and stewardship of donors at the Leadership Giving level
- To oversee fund development needs for special projects and initiatives
Successful applicants to the Nellie’s Fund Development Committee will be making a commitment to a two-year term, with possibility of extension to 4 years.

All interested persons are invited to an Open House on Tuesday July 8th, 2014 at 6:30pm at Nellie’s Admin Office, 754 Queen Street East (Broadview & Queen). This will be an informal opportunity for you to meet with current Board members and talk with them about their experience on Nellie’s Board.
