Become a member of Nellie’s community and work with us to create a world free of oppression and violence against women and children.

Nellie’s is seeking women to serve on its volunteer Governance Board of Directors. A successful applicant would join a dynamic team of women from across various backgrounds and sectors who are passionate in ensuring that Nellie’s remains a strong and effective organisation that helps women and children experiencing homelessness and domestic violence.

All applicants must support our Mission Statement and be committed to achieving social justice for all women and children by providing strategic leadership for Nellie’s.

“Our Mission is to operate programs and services for women and children who have and are experiencing oppressions such as violence, poverty, and homelessness. Nellie’s is a community-based feminist organization which operates within an anti-racist, anti-oppression framework. We are committed to social change through education and advocacy, to achieve social justice for all women and children”.

Nellie’s is committed to the development of an agency that reflects Toronto’s diversity and the clients we serve. We are currently seeking applicants who:

  • are members of underrepresented groups
  • through either lived experience, work, or volunteer activities, understand issues important to vulnerable or marginalized community members such as disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, low income, homelessness youth, seniors.
  • have a commitment to inclusive and intersectional feminism

This position is open to all women. Woman signifies anyone who self- identifies as female, femme and/or woman. This includes transwomen, cisgender women, non-binary people who identify as femme or female presenting.

Commitment of Successful Applicants:

  • • Attendance at monthly Board Meetings (2.5 hours per month + prep time)
  • • Attendance at the Annual General Meeting in September
  • • Serve on at least one Board Committee
  • Participation in the annual Board Retreat in October / November (10 hours approx.)
  • Support the ongoing development and implementation of a long term vision and strategic plan for Nellie’s.
  • Minimum two-year term (to a maximum of three two-year terms)
