Housing Support

Support_Housing_edit

Nellie’s Transitional Housing Support Program is focused on helping women who have left situations of violence, poverty, and homelessness access safe and affordable housing so that they do not return to violent situations.  Through this program women are assisted with the application process for subsidized housing as well as with safety planning, crisis support, advocacy, and connections to community resources.  Women are able to apply for housing in Toronto as well as other surrounding municipalities such as Peel, Durham, and York Region.

In addition to working with women to secure housing, staff also connect them to community resources in their area so that they will have the support and tools they need to establish themselves once they move in to their new homes.  Women are assisted with finding furniture and other household items that make a house a home.   Recently, Nellie’s Transitional Housing Support Program has focused on meeting the underserved needs of women with disAbilities, with recent renovations to the Community Support and Outreach Office making it accessible to women who use wheelchairs or motorized vehicles.
