For over 50 years Nellie’s has been providing shelter and support for marginalized women and their children in the Greater Toronto Area. We are mandated to operate programs and services for women and children who had or are experiencing violence, poverty, and homelessness. Nellie’s works to lessen homeless for women and their children whether the cause is family violence, mental health, or any other reason that results in dealing with the impact from trauma. In addition to providing shelter, our programs are designed to reduce the isolation that often comes with abuse.
Our core operations involve our 38-bed emergency shelter for women and their children who are homeless or escaping violent situations. In addition to our shelter, Nellie’s operates an E-PAVE program that supports women and children in the community develop empowerment self-defense skills to help support verbal boundary setting, situational removal and other de-escalation techniques. The E-PAVE vision is to:
• To provide participants with the skillset to interrupt the cycle of bullying and abuse
• To empower participants, and increase their confidence in themselves
• To increase participant self-worth
• To provide space for participants to reflect on how they treat others, and how they want to be treated
• To increase participants boundary setting ability
• To reduce violence in our community
Nellie’s is currently looking to hire an E-PAVE Coordinator to provide the areas of programs preparation and outreach for the development of the E-PAVE Program.

JOB DESCRIPTION
Program Outreach
1. Develop, plan, facilitate, and evaluate Nellie’s E-PAVE programs
2. Prepare and clean up for all drops in programs
3. Facilitation of all drop in and workshops
4. Develop strong working connections and relationship and evolving a network/resource list in promoting Nellie’s programs
Administration
1. Prepare monthly reports that provide progress on programs
2. Coordinate outreach programs and maintain resources
3. Report on E-PAVE update to Manager
4. Provide relevant program pictures for Nellie’s reports and website Blog
Social Justice, Community Education & Outreach
1. Outreach and participation in community coalitions and actions along with women
2. Participation on board committees as required
3. Public speaking and community education
4. Liaise with Second Harvest, Women’s Health, Legal Aid and other relevant community services providers
5. Active participation on social justice issues
General
1. Work co-operatively as a member of the community support team
2. Attend regular team meetings, staff training sessions and planning meetings
3. Supervise volunteers and students
QUALIFICATION:
▪ College Diploma in the field of Social Services or
▪ Two (2) years of direct experience
▪ Empowerment Self Defense Instructor Certification
▪ Strong understanding of ARAO principles
▪ General knowledge in mindfulness, yoga or martial arts
▪ General knowledge of community drop-in services
▪ Valid CPR/ First Aid Certification
▪ CPI Certification as Asset
▪ Food Handling Certificate
Hours: 35 hrs/week
Duration of Contract: December 1, 2023 – March 31, 2026
Salary: $51,402 annually
