Women at Nellie’s Enjoy an Afternoon of Gardening

Last week staff Meghan and Cecelia facilitated a gardening program for the women and children staying at our shelter.

We planted lettuce, kale, spinach, sweet potato, echinacea, chamomile, cucumber, watermelon, tomatoes, basil, sage, lavender, rosemary, thyme, parsley, green beans, carrots and sweet peas.

Here is what the women and children had to say about the day:

“This is so fun!  All the herbs smell so good!”

“Out of 10, I give this gardening program a 15!”

“This has been such a wonderful afternoon.”

A special thanks to Sara, Nicole, Cameron and Joce Tremblay who were gardening volunteers for the day.

Gardening is definitely my own passion due to the fact it truly aids myself to enjoy and unwind. I like to grow flowers both indoors as well as outdoors. My personal favorite plants are generally tropical decorative plants and flowers as well as fresh fruit bearing plants.
