Women share their thoughts on Supper Drop-In

Posted on: October 20th, 2011 by Nellie's No Comments

Last night we asked the women attending our Wednesday night Supper Drop-In Program what they like best about it.  Here is what they had to say:

“Nellie’s is saving my life. Without this I would be hungry every day.”

“When I step in, I feel that I have a family.”

(Adriana, Nellie’s Community Outreach Worker hosts the Supper Drop-In Program every Wednesday night).

“The staff, volunteers, and students are a part of our life.  Thank you Nellie’s for that.”

“My daughter loves attending the Wednesday Drop-In Program to have a warm and amazing meal and to play with the other kids.”

Nellie’s launches 2010/11 Annual Report

Posted on: October 11th, 2011 by Nellie's No Comments

We are pleased to announce the release of our 2010/11 Annual Report.  The report was officially introduced to our donors, funders, and the public on Monday September 26th at our Annual General Meeting. The support we received for our most committed donors, volunteers, and community members helped us reach out to over 2000 women and children experiencing violence, poverty, and homelessness last year.

We were able to provide emergency shelter to 191 women and children, respond to over 2000 crisis calls and serve over 4500 meals through our food outreach program.  We were able to help women like Marlene find safety for herself and her children and eventually go back to school and move out into her own home, free from violence and abuse. Marlene shares her story on page 6.

(Nellie’s volunteers Paola and Patti welcome guests to our Annual General Meeting)

Our Annual Report also includes a feminist environmental scan, which looks at women’s rights and equality provincially, nationally, and around the world.  Nellie’s Board Vice-President Marcia Beck, introduces our capital campaign for a new shelter on page 7.

Because of the generosity and contributions of our donors, volunteers, and community members, the women and children who come to Nellie’s are able to find safety and comfort as they begin their journey to a better life.   Please take a look at our latest Annual Report to see how your support has enabled us to offer programs, services, and support to women and children escaping violence, poverty, and abuse.
