Reports to: Full Time Housing Support Program Worker
Main Function: To provide Legal, Immigration & Housing resources and support to clients in the shelter and community who are homeless; at risk and don’t qualify for SPP Housing.

POSITION TASKS
- Support Women to Find and Maintain Housing
- Develop an updated list of appropriate alternative housing resources
- Develop and maintain network of relevant contacts in the housing sector
- Provides appropriate, timely information to women regarding housing alternatives
- Help women to timely prepare and submit housing applications
- Advocacy
- Assist clients with family, criminal and immigration legal matters
- Assist clients obtain police reports to support housing applications
- Assist clients with legal aid applications and interviews
- Advocate for clients with law enforcement, lawyers, and other agencies
- Arrange for cultural interpreters for all appointments and court date
- Liaison with housing providers and shelters

- Assist clients with forms and documentation that needs to be completed
- Maintain service statistics
- Report writing on a monthly basis

- Works co-operatively as a member of the Community Support Team
- Attends regular team meetings, staff training sessions and planning meetings Assists with other duties as required from time to time, aiding in the efficient operation of the organization
STAFFING REQUIREMENTS
- Skills
- Experience working with women in the areas of homelessness, poverty and violence
- Strong planning, time management, problem-solving and interpersonal skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Demonstrated cultural competence and experience working with a diversity of communities/cultures
- Demonstrated ability to work appropriately and sensitively with confidential information
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and the Internet
- Second language, in addition to English, is an asset
- A Police Check will be required by the successful applicant

- Qualifications
- Must be a student who is currently studying in the field of Social Work or Assaulted Women’s Program required 500 or more student placement hours
- Applicant needs to be in her second student placement
- Student placement position works from September to April
