WHY EVEN IT UP?

Oxfam’s vision is a world free from injustice and poverty. Yet today, 80 people own as much wealth as half the world’s population, while nearly a billion people can barely afford to feed their families. The majority of the world’s poorest people are women and girls. There has been considerable progess: Extreme poverty has been cut in half in the past two decades. And the gap in primary school enrolment between boys and girls is decreasing. But today’s extreme economic inequality threatens to undo much of the progress made in making sure people around the world have food on the table, a decent education and health care.
