16 Days of Activism Against Gender Violence

Event Details

The 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence begin on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women on November 25 and end on International Human Rights Day on December 10.

They also include the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence against Women on December 6. The 16 Days of Activism is a time to both reflect on violence against women and to take action to end it.

Think about it…

We know the facts. We know that women and girls continue to be more at risk of experiencing many forms of violence than men and boys. For example, women are 11 times more likely than men to be a target of police-reported sexual violence

As a society, we must ask ourselves why and – more importantly – what can we do?

Look closely and you will see the roots of gender-based violence all around you — in sexist jokes that demean women, in the language that we use, in media messages that objectify women and glorify toxic masculinity, and in the rigid gender norms we impose on young children. Find out more about the roots of Gender-based Violence.

It’s time to make the connection. Gender-based violence grows out of a culture that devalues women and femininity.
